Founded in 1968 by mother and daughter Olga and Dorothea Dessin, Dessin Animal Shelter is a private, nonprofit organization that assists in the placement of many animals each year into loving homes. Shelter employees are committed to offering comfort while in their care and ensuring that, before adoption, each pet is tested for disease, spayed or neutered and receive vaccinations. Dessin is able to do so through proceeds from the Cat’s Pajamas, generosity of donors, grant assistance and funds from community awareness and fundraising events.

Dessin Animal Shelter provides many important services to the surrounding area including:

  • shelter for lost, abandoned or displaced animals
  • community education
  • adoption services
  • spay and neuter program
  • cruelty prevention
  • humane education

Different Ways to Give

General Donations

At Dessin Animal Shelter, general monetary donations are always welcome! All donations go directly into the care of our animals, and maintaining safe housing for each and every one of them. We are very passionate about our goal and with your support, our mission to get all animals homes becomes easier.

To remember a beloved family member or pet

Grief is hard. Unfortunately, all of us will experience it in some way. One of the best things we can do is honor their memory in positive ways.

If you do make a donation in memory of a beloved family member, please also leave the information of the loved one, their family, and the address of the loved ones family so we can send them an acknowledgement

and our condolences.

Sponsor a kennel

Sponsoring a pet's stay with us is $30 a month until the animal is adopted, or until you choose to stop. In recognition of doing this, we will place a card with your name on the outside of the kennel the animal is in. You can also sponsor the adoption fee of any pet here in the shelter, so that their adoption fee is free to an approved adopter!

Planned Giving Program

Some incredibly generous folks want to continue to contribute, even after they are gone. There are many ways this could be done, such as

  • trust fund
  • a living will
  • retirement
  • gifts

Bequests of any sort should be discussed with your attorney. This way you may discuss with them exactly how you want your contribution handled.

Non-monetary donations

Non monetary donations are just as appreciated as monetary donations. These types of donations may include

  • Cat Food and litter
  • Dog Food
  • Crates of any kind
  • Traps
  • Medications
  • Leashes, Collars, Toys, Etc.

We do have a wish list on our home page, that is kept current with our up-to-date needs.
